International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) has recently announced that it will be investing more than $200 million for the development of a new IBM Watson global headquarters (HQ) in Munich as part of its $3-billion investment for the development of new Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities.

With the new investment, the company aims to address the rising demand for IoT and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions among enterprises and other clients.

The new IBM Watson HQ will house the first cognitive IoT Collaboratories, which are hands-on industry laboratories that welcome collaborative work among clients, partners, and company researchers and developers. The efforts will be geared toward automotive, electronics, healthcare, industrial, and insurance innovations.
With an exceptional facility, collaborators will work hand-in-hand to study new concepts and build new state-of-the-art solutions. Simply speaking, they will explore all the possibilities and even go beyond the limits of what can be imagined.
With these ambitious initiatives, IBM Watson hopes to improve the lives of its clients as it facilitates one of the biggest and most important innovative transformations in the digital era.
The company has also introduced new offerings. These include Watson IoT and Blockchain, which syncs IoT data to Blockchain through the IBM Watson IoT platform; enhanced IoT Security Solutions and Services, which enable companies to easily identify and counter potential risks; Natural Language Interface, which allows clients to develop voice interfaces; and Cognitive IoT Cookbook, which features comprehensive coding guides for developer.
The latest investment in a global HQ marks one of the company’s biggest investments in Europe.
