US twins born in different years

Maribel Valencia, of San Diego, California made it to a local hospital on Thursday just in time to give birth to a baby girl - Jaelyn - in the final seconds of 2015, at 11.59pm on Dec 31.

Her brother, Luis, arrived 3 minutes later at 12:02 a.m. on January 1, 2016.

"It's pretty much the best of both worlds", Navy diesel mechanic Luis Valencia, the proud father, told the station.

But after several hours of labour, Mrs Valencia gave birth to the two healthy babies - a flawless ending to 2015 and a ideal start to the new year.

Jaelyn weighed 4 pounds, 15 ounces.

The two new additions join their three-year-old sister Isabella, Dailard said.
