The SUV driver, 51-year-old Ryszard Malarczyk, and his wife, 50-year-old Anita, of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, died in the crash, as did their friend, 51-year-old Jaroslaw Karczewski, of Poland.

Monica Malarczyk, 22, Peter Malarczyk, 20, and Natalie Malarczyk, 16; all of Hastings on Hudson, were taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center then to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. They suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Police say witnesses reported the truck veered across the centerline and into the other lane.

There were three survivors, believed by investigators to be the couple's children.

A mountain road was in poor condition, covered with slush and ice, when a tractor-trailer and SUV collided head-on in Killington, killing three people, according to Vermont State Police.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Lashawn Jones, 41, of Alpharetta, Ga., was taken to a hospital for observation.
