Injuries have not aided their situation, with several key players finding themselves on the sidelines, but a push for a place in Europe this season is still well within reach, with fifth placed Crystal Palace just seven points ahead.

When asked whether he was about to dip into the transfer market, Koeman said at his prematch press conference: "At the moment, no".

"These are two strikers, two good players and if we don't have them back maybe that's a question to sign a new striker, but not other positions in the team".

Koeman is now without Graziano Pelle and Jay Rodriguez through injury, although both are expected to be back in action in the near future. "My plans for Steven are that he stays until the end of the season and then we need to make a decision because he is on loan for one season", he said.

The injury front still doesn't seem to be clearing up a huge deal either however, and Koeman is expecting to have the same group of players from the 2-1 defeat to West Ham United available for the weekend's match against Norwich City. "We have enough competition and I am pleased with the rest of the squad".

Earlier, Saints boss Ronald Koeman said he wanted to keep the player until the end of the season.
