Backroad Anthem's Craig Srickland found dead, at age 29
Strickland was the lead singer of Arkansas-based country-rock band Backroad Anthem, which said Monday that it appeared Strickland was able to drag himself out of the water before dying. Strickland's dog, Sam, was also found in OK condition, according to Tulsa World. He was found lying on his back in the shape of a cross.
Strickland's fellow band members posted the following message on the group's Facebook page Monday evening: "Today we lost our brother, our best friend, our bandmate".
The 29-year-old Strickland went missing last week after he and his friend Chase Morland went on a duck-hunting trip during winter storm Goliath. He experienced no pain in his final moments and simply felt like he was falling asleep... She said that there his death was the most peaceful way for him to be back in the arms of the Lord and that the fans' prayers played a role on making it happen.
Search teams looked for Strickland daily since his disappearance, searching the water and the areas surrounding the lake until his body was found on Monday morning.
The news was confirmed by Highway Patrol spokeswoman Kera Philippi, who stated the Strickland's body was discovered in the northwestern section of Kaw Lake known as Bear Creek Cove.
Helen, a former Miss Arkansas USA victor, has been active on social media since her husband's disappearance on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, when he and friend Chase Morland set out on a duck hunting trip in Kay County, Oklahoma. He will always be here to help guide us along the way.
Our musings go out to the Strickland and Morland families amid this time.
Their boat capsized and Strickland was able to swim to land, but he succumbed to the elements. Search efforts had to be called off repeatedly, especially at night, due to poor weather conditions.
