According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, they received a burglary call at 8:48 p.m. When the officers arrived on the scene, the suspect fired multiple shots at the officers, and officers shot back at the suspect. When the suspect got out of the vehicle, police officers fired at the suspect, hitting him.

The suspect then got into his auto and led police on a chase.

Officers said Thomas James Guolee, 34, of Colorado Springs is being charged with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer; attempted burglary; possession of a weapon by a previous offender; aggravated auto theft and vehicular eluding.

Officers returned fire. But the man drove off and crashed his vehicle about 3 miles away.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Kirby said two officers were involved in the shooting and neither was injured.

The sheriff's office will investigate the shooting and present their findings to county prosecutors, who will determine the legality of the use of force. They will now be placed on administrative leave, which is routine in any officer-involved shooting.
