The online streaming website Netflix announced on Wednesday that it was expanding its availability to 130 more countries, including Israel, causing millions in the country to rejoice as the long-awaited service finally arrived.

The announcement came from Netflix CEO Reed Hastings during the first official day of CES 2016 in Las Vegas. With this launch, consumers around the world will be able to enjoy TV shows and movies simultaneously - no more waiting. The company also pointed out that North Koreans won't be able to access the wealth of western entertainment either - and Syria is out, too, due to US trade embargoes.

Netflix, which started its streaming service in the United States in 2007, a year ago expressed a goal to expand to an extra 150 countries across the globe.

"While we have been on stage, we switched Netflix on in Azerbaijan, Vietnam, India, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea and 130 new countries".

Video streaming behemoth Netflix Inc. has finally launched its services in India.

With all of that said, we think it’s finally time to say good bye to downloading torrents.

According to Haaretz, not all Netflix content will be available in Israel.

"We are in a unique position to bring the world's stories to the world's people", Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said at CES.

I'm simply curious, as I wonder whether Netflix truly is a dominant global platform, or if it's dominant in certain areas (like the U.S. for example), but lags behind other providers in others.

Netflix original series include Marvel's Daredevil and Marvel's Jessica Jones, Narcos, Sense8, Grace and Frankie, and Marco Polo, as well as a catalogue of licensed TV shows and movies. In a statement, Netflix explained that it was continuing to "explore its options" to provide the service in China. In addition, they streamed about 12 billion hours of content including original series, documentaries and feature films previous year.
