Bernie Sanders Reverses Course on Gun Immunity Vote

Demi Lovato sings for Hillary Clinton at rally that turned sour

Clinton dispatched a fleet of top surrogates to early voting states, including former Obama Cabinet officials, mayors, party leaders and her family, former President Bill Clinton and their daughter, Chelsea.

Bill Clinton, who was widely credited for helping Barack Obama win a second term in 2012, has become much more active on the campaign trail this month, especially in New Hampshire, where Hillary Clinton trails Bernie Sanders in several recent statewide polls.

Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley also will participate in Sunday's debate on NBC. The Sanders stock is trading in the 60 cents range, Clinton is in the 30-40 cents range.

Finally, there's the core issue motivating Sanders's campaign and indeed his entire political career - his desire to check the power of the superwealthy and corporations.

The Clinton campaign insists it has done legwork with both groups, covering its bases with those who chose Obama in 2008 - and viewing the 2016 electorate as a new, distinct entity. And Donald Trump weighed in on everything from Marco Rubio's citizenship to his own relationship with a higher power.

Clinton has used Sanders' earlier vote to undercut his liberal image.

Clinton has been criticizing Sanders's vote for the 2005 bill since October, but her criticisms-and his desire to shore up his credibility with on an issue that resonates with many Democratic primary voters-gained new urgency as Sanders gained on Clinton in the polls. "I don't think she wants to take anything for granted".

Clinton's aides said it was "simply not possible" to implement Sanders' plan - which they say would dismantle Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act - without raising taxes on the middle class. Clinton has pledged not to raise taxes on the middle class.

But as a crisis counselor, she finds Clinton's views on gun control more appealing.

Clinton's troubles sealing the nomination despite being labeled by many as the inevitable nominee has echoes of the 2008 Democratic primary, in which she held a similar status but was beaten in Iowa by then-Sen.

Electing Hillary Clinton would be a "twofer" for voters, Snipes said, because she would benefit from his eight years of experience in the White House. The article neglected to say that leads in Iowa and New Hampshire carry more weight than these national polls that are polling people who have not fully tuned into the election and are not as committed to any candidate yet. "Because", Clinton said on GMA this week, "if you look at Senator Sanders' proposals going back nine times in the Congress, that's exactly what he's proposed".

After South Carolina, the Democratic contest will move across the South, with large numbers of African-American voters, into more than two dozen states in March. Her campaign also set up a bilingual phone bank there.

Almost 500 people showed up in Coralville Friday night for a Clinton rally. But the Clinton campaign has a fight on its hands - and anything smacking of politics-as-usual is more likely to lose votes than win them.

Hillary Clinton is anxious about Bernie Sanders. But just like in 2008, when she faced an opponent, Obama, who could mesmerize crowds, Clinton risks being overtaken. He said, "We see the jobs grow but the incomes don't". She agreed with the roughly half of Democrats that told Reuters/Ipsos that the former president "should take a prominent role" campaigning for his wife and that it would help her.
