Boston native Mike Condon stopped 27 shots to lead the Canadiens to a 5-1 victory over the Bruins on Friday in the Winter Classic at the home of the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

This year's edition, to be played at Gillette Stadium with a 1 p.m. puck drop, features the Boston Bruins against the Montreal Canadiens, and, well, come on: These two teams could play in the back room of the Narragansett brewery down in Providence, Rhode Island, and there would be a ton of interest.

"Yeah, Bruins, Habs, Gillette Stadium, New Year's Day, I don't think you could script it any better", Condon said of the game he labelled the most special one of his life.

Q: Will we go back to venues that we have seen before? But (the Bruins) went though injuries as well. Patrice Bergeron has recorded three goals in as many games and leads the team in scoring with 35 points while Loui Eriksson has collected 33, including five assists in his last three contests.

"I mean, the way the night went, couldn't really ask for anything more", said Gallagher.

Marchand had been a viable candidate for a spot on Canada's World Cup team next summer, and it is unclear if that will change now as a result of the hit. "It was so unbelievable". Montreal outshot Boston 14-3 in the opening period.

"We haven't done that in the winter time before, but we'll keep looking at it and working with the league to try and do it someday", Molson said. No further information on her condition was immediately available. That works out well since the Montreal Canadiens don't particularly like the Boston Bruins all that much either.

Friday's game is not expected to be so genteel - not with the teams separated by one point in the Eastern Conference standings.

When all's said and done, it's a single game. It was going to be a game of mistakes, and the Habs capitalized on all of Boston's.

Bettman: We've had discussions, not that we are committed to going there.

"We definitely feel like we let everybody down, " said Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg."It was such a big buildup". "But enjoy the experience because it is just that, it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience".

The Bruins pulled within two when Matt Beleskey tipped in an Adam McQuaid point shot with 16:04 to play in the game.

If you are a Canadiens fan and were watching the NHL's Winter Classic on television you might have wished you were there. He was born in MA, supporting the Bruins and Patriots and found himself on the opposite team, playing a blinder of a game.

Having this Winter Classic on the schedule seemed to expedite the healing process for Gallagher's fractured fingers. Rask took a shot off the shoulder midway through the third period and needed medical attention, but he remained in the game....

Steve Laidlaw over at Dobber Hockey spent a big chunk of his January 2nd Hockey Ramblings talking about the Winter Classic.

Since the first was held in Buffalo in 2008, the league has expanded it's outdoor regular-season schedule with the "Stadium Series" of games and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said this week the league plans to continue them. Everyone's favorite Bruins fan watched the game from the front row and even handed out one of his signature fist bumps to B's owner Jeremy Jacobs.
