It's not even especially hip. Murdoch's discovery of his wife's crush was said to be the "final straw" that prompted him to file for divorce after14 years of marriage. Though Hall has a long list of famous exes, this will be her first marriage.

That's not to say we can't assume there may be at least a little retribution at play here. Earlier, Murdoch and Wendi Deng split but the 2013 divorce settlement reportedly cost about $100 million. They have only been dating since the summer, when they were introduced by Murdoch's relatives in his native Australia.

On the romantic side, Hall is best known for having dated Mick Jagger from 1977 to 1999. Jerry is 59 and got four children from the previous marriage.

That's likely to end now. Hall was married to Jagger for greater than 20 years.

Hall accompanied Murdoch to the Golden Globes on Sunday night, the pair holding hands throughout the evening as they sat on the same table as The Martian star and Golden Globe victor Matt Damon and fellow actor Morgan Freeman.

Murdoch, executive chairman of News Corp and 21st Century Fox, has been married three times earlier.
